Beyond The Brink

Date:
September 14, 2017 - 6:00pm to 7:00pm
UC Merced School of Engineering professors Roger Bales, Martha Conklin and Joshua Viers, all experts in water, are featured in a new documentary premiering in Merced on Sept. 14. "Beyond the Brink" is a full-length documentary highlighting the relationship between water, food security and, ultimately, global security. Filmmaker Jim Thibaut delves into water from the peaks of the Sierra Nevada — California’s natural reservoir — to the aquifers of the Valley floor, touching on forest management, water information, agriculture, restoration of groundwater, subsidence, desalination, drought, public health and national security. Doors open at 6 p.m., the film screens at 7 and there will be a panel discussion and reception at 8:30 at the Art Kamangar Center at The Merced Theater. Admission is free, but RSVPs are required as seating is limited. Contact the Sierra Nevada Research Institute at snrievents@ucmerced.edu.
