With more than 400 graduate students and a rapidly growing graduate student population, it is no wonder UC Merced is attracting the best and brightest scholars from all over the world. UC Merced provides competitive financial support and resources. About 95 percent of our graduate students receive funding in the form of fellowships, teaching assistantships (TA), and graduate student researcher (GSR) assistantships.

The mission of the Biological Engineering and Small-scale Technologies (BEST) graduate program at UC Merced is to train our next generation of scientific leaders (MS and PhD) to build knowledge, design products, and solve problems specifically in areas where engineering intersects with biology and medicine.  Our graduates will be prepared to conduct and communicate independent research in innovative and cross-cutting areas fundamental to the field and world around us.
