Discover Graduate Studies in Public Health at UC Merced

UC Merced Graduate Division

Greetings,

UC Merced provides students the University of California's disctinctive world-class education, while adding a special blend of small academic programs, interdisciplinary research and personalized attention from award-winning faculty.
UC Merced professors and researchers have acquired more than $185.7 million in grants and contracts, one of the highest per-capita in the country. With more than 400 graduate students and a rapidly growing graduate student population, it is no wonder UC Merced is attracting the best and brightest scholars from all over the world. UC Merced provides competitive financial support and resources. About 95 percent of our graduate students receive funding in the form of fellowships, teaching assistantships (TA), and graduate student researcher (GSR) assistantships.

Students who study Public Health at UC Merced are uniquely positioned to broaden their understanding of the health needs of California’s San Joaquin Valley populations and to address critical public health problems of today. At UC Merced, the primary research university in the San Joaquin Valley, students can choose to advance their careers in Public Health through a research-based PhD in Public Health through the Individualized Graduate Program (IGP) of the Social & Cognitive Sciences Graduate Degree. Our faculty have expertise in conducting multidisciplinary, community based Public Health research on issues pertinent to the diverse populations of the San Joaquin Valley, including chronic disease prevention, reducing health disparities, health economics, environmental health, Latino health, cancer, mental health, air pollution, smoking behaviors, and vector ecology. These areas of study are part of our emphasis in Prevention Sciences and Population Health, a multidisciplinary course of study that gives students the skills and training they need to address pressing public health problems in the region and beyond.

I also encourage you to visit the Graduate Division’s web page, http://graduatedivision.ucmerced.edu, to learn more about our innovative academic programs, financial support, student services, professional development opportunities, and important information about the application process.
