Thinking About Graduate School?

UCOP What's Next: http://www.ucop.edu/graduate-studies/_files/whats-next.pdf

1.     Summer Appointments

UCM allows student appointments in the summer for new incoming graduate students. All new incoming graduate students must meet the “good academic standing” criteria outlined by the Graduate Dean.  Good standing for these students means they have submitted their SIR, all their official documentation has been received, and all visa requirements have met.  The new policy and criteria was unanimously endorsed by the Graduate Council on May 14, 2014.

This new practice will be codified in the Graduate Policies and Procedures (known as the Graduate Advisors Handbook) in the next academic year.

2.     Research Experiences for Undergraduates:

UCM has a robust summer program (run by the Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Studies) to provide research experiences to underrepresented minority undergraduates.  This past summer more than 40 students from across the nation participated.  In addition, UCM currently has three distinct Research Experiences for Undergraduates grants from the National Science Foundation.  The Graduate Division is increasing its engagement with students in all of these programs

Graduate Preparation Programs

Graduate preparation programs for undergraduates are another source of opportunity for advancing a diverse graduate population at UC Merced. The following programs exist to support excellent students whose situations and conditions may have placed them at disadvantage in progressing in their particular field.
