Merced to Market Event to Help Students, Faculty Bring Inventions to the World

March 28, 2023

The Office of Research and Economic Development at UC Merced is hosting its inaugural conference on entrepreneurship and innovation, called Merced to Market.

The April 7 conference, being held in the Dr. Vikram and Priya Lakireddy Grand Ballroom, is designed to help faculty and students learn about entrepreneurship and how to take university research to market.

Participants will hear from a variety of speakers including:

  • Vice Chancellor of Research Gillian Wilson on UC Merced's vision for innovation and entrepreneurship and the opportunities offered by the Technology Transfer Office;

  • Professors Victor Muñoz from UC Merced and Daniel Cox from UC Davis on their entrepreneurial journeys;

  • UC Office of the President attorneys Rita Hao and Randi Jenkins discussing pathways an invention may take on its road from idea to market and some of the legal considerations involved in bringing technology to market;

  • Experts, including alumni, on building leadership teams, raising capital and marketing inventions.

There will also be a scavenger hunt designed to help participants network, think about their own entrepreneurial journeys and more. Participants will win prizes along the way.

The daylong event will begin with breakfast and registration, offer coffee breaks and lunch, wrap up with a reception, and feature many opportunities for networking and discussion.
