CAHSI INCLUDES Conference

The UC Merced Conference to Advance the Collective Impact of Retention & Continuation Strategies for Hispanics and Other Underrepresented Minorities in STEM Fields is part of the broader National Science Foundation Initiative, Inclusion across the Nation of Communities of Learners of Underrepresented Discoverers in Engineering and Science (NSF INCLUDES).

The CAHSI INCLUDES conference will employ collective impact strategies to explore design features necessary to successfully expand the educational and career pipelines for Latinos and other underrepresented minorities in STEM fields, with particular attention to their participation in associate degree, baccalaureate, and graduate degree programs.

This meeting convenes thought leaders, educators at multiple levels and types of educational institutions researchers from the social sciences and different STEM fields, industry representatives, community leaders, and professional societies and draw on evidence-based knowledge across multiple fields and types of institutions to discuss and assess whether identified strategies can yield large-scale progress toward INCLUDES goals.

The expected outcomes of the conference are:
1) An understanding of the landscape of efforts focused on Hispanics and other underrepresented groups in STEM undergraduate and graduate programs that can inform collective impact alliances

2) Connections among various stakeholders that can contribute to collective impact alliances

3) A roadmap for successful collective impact initiatives, including the roles of mini-backbones and the national backbone organization.

Travel
The recommended airport to fly into is Reagan National Airport – Washington, D.C. (DCA), which is approximately 7 miles from the Kellogg Conference Hotel. Book flights at least 30 days in advance of the meeting.

Transportation
Attendees are responsible for transportation from the airport to/from hotel.

Hotel Accommodations
The Kellogg Conference Center is located on the historic campus of Gallaudet University in northeastern Washington, D.C., approximately 1.5 miles from Capitol Hill and 2 miles from the National Mall. A block of rooms has been reserved under NSF INCLUDES.

If you request a room when completing your registration by February 24th, then we will reserve a room(s) for you and a confirmation number will be provided by March 1. Upon check-in, you are required to provide a credit card for incidentals.

We are able to partially reimburse participants for hotel, airfare, and/or train expenses. A travel reimbursement form and guidelines for all registrants will be available at the conference, and participants will be reimbursed within 30 days after receipt of their travel reimbursement form and submission of claims for reimbursement.
