UROC-H Program

In 2016, UC Merced was awarded a significant grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to expand the representation of Latino/a and other underrepresented minority students in Ph.D. programs and, ultimately, the professoriate.

The grant funded the Undergraduate Research in the Humanities program (UROC-H). The goal of UROC-H is to create a legacy of community-engaged scholars and to expand pathways for undergraduates in the humanities and humanistic social sciences.

With the UROC-H training program, UC Merced prepares underrepresented UC Merced students for doctoral studies in the UC system and for successful careers in the professoriate through:

Research experiences with faculty

Mentoring by UC Merced faculty and graduate students

Seminars and workshops to develop successful applications

GRE preparation

A series of visits to sister UC campuses to meet with faculty and graduate students and participate in joint research symposiums
